The term “human factors” has grown increasingly popular as the industries has realised that human errors, rather than mechanical failures are often involved in accidents and incidents.
The term human factors term is often used following human error of some type and therefore it is easy to think of it negatively. Industries have realised that human factors also includes all the positive aspects of human performance, things that we human humans do well. The primary focus of any human factors initiative or training course is to improve safety and efficiency by reducing and managing human error made by individuals and organisations.
Human factors is about understanding our behaviour and factors that are critical to our performance. When we are aware of basics the organisation can start to optimise the fit between people and the systems in which they work to improve safety and performace.
