Every day, potable water is supplied to aircraft to support passenger comfort and crew operations. When performed incorrectly, however, it can pose serious health, safety, and compliance risks.

As operational environments become more demanding, structured and standardised training for potable water service personnel is no longer optional. It is a key component of safe and hygienic aircraft operations.

Understanding the Risks in the Potable Water Supply Chain

Potable water servicing is not limited to filling aircraft tanks. It involves a complete supply chain, from water sourcing and storage to vehicles, equipment, and aircraft interfaces. At each stage, there is potential for contamination if procedures and hygiene requirements are not strictly followed.

Industry standards such as IATA AHM 440 and IGOM 3.6 clearly define how potable water must be handled to protect passenger health and ensure regulatory compliance. Yet procedures alone are not enough staff must understand why these controls exist and how to apply them consistently in real-world operations.
