Aircraft lavatory systems play an important role in supporting passenger comfort, hygiene, and safe flight operations. When servicing is performed incorrectly, it can pose serious health, safety, environmental, and compliance risks to personnel, passengers, and aircraft.

In already demanding operational environments, structured and standardised training for lavatory servicing personnel is a critical component of safe, hygienic, and compliant aircraft operations.

Supporting Safe and Hygienic Lavatory Servicing Operations

Lavatory servicing is not limited to draining waste tanks. It involves a complete operational process, including aircraft interfaces, service vehicles, equipment, chemicals, and waste handling. At each stage, there is potential for exposure, contamination, spills, or environmental impact if procedures and hygiene requirements are not strictly followed.

Industry standards such as IATA AHM 441 and IGOM 3.5 define how aircraft lavatory servicing must be performed to protect personnel health, ensure hygiene, and maintain regulatory compliance. However, procedures alone are not enough. Personnel must understand why these controls exist and how to apply them consistently in real-world operations.
