Midsummer in Finland 2025

As Midsummer approaches, Finland comes alive with celebrations, light, and timeless traditions. Bonfires blaze on lakeshores, birch branches adorn doorways, and the scent of grilled food drifts through the air. In the country's Swedish-speaking regions, the maypole dances add an extra touch of joy to the festivities.

Midsummer is a magical experience that touches the heart of everyone who takes part, whether they're Finnish or just fortunate enough to be here at this time of year.

The Midnight Sun is a Natural Health Booster

One of the most remarkable aspects of Midsummer in Finland is the midnight sun. Due to our location near the Arctic Circle, the sun barely sets, resulting in bright “white nights” that contrast with the darkness of winter.

Research suggests that exposure to this extended daylight may reduce blood pressure. The sun's ultraviolet rays stimulate the production of nitric oxide in the skin, helping to expand blood vessels and improve circulation. This makes this natural phenomenon not only beautiful, but also beneficial for your health.

Fire, Food, Sauna & Family

For many Finns, Midsummer is a time to escape from city life. Families head to lakeside or seaside cottages to recharge their batteries, enjoy outdoor cooking, and reconnect with nature and each other.

Traditions are deeply cherished:

  • Lighting bonfires

  • Enjoying grilled meals and fresh fish

  • Relaxing in a sauna

  • Simply being present with loved ones.

These rituals help us to pause and reflect, and build to energy for the year ahead.

Time to Embrace the Light!

Our office is taking a short break to enjoy the magic of Midsummer and the long, light nights.

If you’re lucky enough to have time off, we hope you’ll use it to relax and recharge, and perhaps experience a bit of Finnish summer wherever you are.

Wishing you a joyful and peaceful Midsummer!

Warm regards,

Pertti
