We were pleased to participate in this year’s GHI Asia Conference, which took place from 31 March to 2 April 2026 at Suntec Singapore.

The event brought together ground handling leaders from around the world to discuss the future of our industry, covering topics ranging from regulation and safety to digital transformation and skills.

Airport College International On Stage

Airport College International was represented on stage by CEO Pertti Mero, who shared key insights from Japan and South Korea on how ground handling companies are responding to rapid aviation growth and increasing operational complexity.

Mr Mero on stage.

Both markets are experiencing a strong recovery in passenger traffic and cargo demand, supported by government-driven tourism targets and expanding hub operations. However, this growth is outpacing workforce availability, creating significant challenges in recruitment, training, and maintaining consistent operational standards.

We demonstrated with real-world examples how online training can help organisations efficiently scale workforce competence. Digital, multilingual, and standardised training, aligned with IATA AHM 1110 and recognised under ASA ATAP, can provide ground handlers worldwide with the same benefits.

The message is clear: while traffic can grow quickly, sustainable performance depends on preparing the workforce with structured, scalable training solutions.

Our New Integrated Aviation Training Concept (IATC)

We introduced the IATC, which combines digital eLearning, immersive practical training and structured on-the-job training (OJT) to provide a seamless pathway from theory to operational competence.

The concept brings together three key elements of aviation training: digital eLearning for the theoretical foundation, immersive practical training through Virtual Reality (VR) and simulation, and structured on-the-job training (OJT) in real operational environments. Together, these elements form a clear and effective learning journey: theory → practice → operational competence.

To bridge the gap between training and real-world performance, the concept integrates hands-on learning through VR and structured workplace training. Airport College International is working with selected industry partners to deliver these components, including Smart Aerospace Solutions Ltd. for OJT and AVIAR B.V. for VR-based training.

By combining these elements into one integrated approach, IATC enables organisations to accelerate workforce readiness, improve safety and operational performance, and develop a workforce that is ready for the future in a rapidly evolving aviation environment.

Key Takeaways from GHI Asia 2026 Singapore

Over three days, the conference focused on several themes that are highly relevant to our customers and partners.

GHI Asia 2026 highlighted the rapid growth of aviation across APAC and the urgent need for ground handlers to adapt. Key themes included digitalisation, AI-driven ramp optimisation, workforce efficiency, and the rise of mega airports shaping future operations. However, the industry continues to face structural challenges, including margin pressure, staff shortages and the need for stronger safety cultures.
