Air cargo is an essential part of the global aviation and logistics network, connecting airlines, ground handling companies, freight forwarders and logistics providers around the world.

From general cargo and e-commerce to pharmaceuticals, perishables and live animals, every shipment requires safe, secure and compliant handling. With international operations, diverse workforces and continuously evolving requirements, consistent and effective training is essential.

Supporting Air Cargo Operations with Digital Training

Digital training provides air cargo organisations with an efficient way to develop and maintain competence across their operations.

At Airport College International, we have developed a comprehensive portfolio of aviation-specific eLearning courses supporting employees working throughout the air cargo chain.

Our air cargo training portfolio includes the following eLearning courses:

Different Cargo Requires Different Competence

One of the particular challenges of air cargo is the variety of shipments being transported.

Pharmaceutical products require temperature-controlled processes and careful handling. Perishable products have their own time and temperature requirements. Live animals require specialised knowledge and attention to animal welfare. Dangerous goods require role-specific training and strict compliance with applicable regulations.

ULD operations are another critical area. Incorrect loading, handling, storage or inspection of ULDs can affect not only cargo but also aircraft safety and operational reliability.

Training therefore needs to reflect the responsibilities of employees and the operational risks associated with their work.

Standardisation Across the Cargo Network

For international cargo organisations, one of the key advantages of eLearning is standardisation.

Whether employees are working in cargo operations in Helsinki, Hong Kong, Dubai, Tokyo or elsewhere, digital training makes it possible to provide the same core knowledge and learning objectives throughout the organisation.

This is particularly valuable for companies operating at multiple airports and for organisations with large or multicultural workforces.

eLearning can support new employee onboarding, initial training, recurrent training and competence development while reducing many of the practical challenges associated with organising classroom training across different locations.

Air Cargo Is a Team Effort

Safe and efficient air cargo operations depend on cooperation between airlines, ground handlers, freight forwarders, warehouse personnel, ramp teams and other stakeholders.

While responsibilities differ, everyone shares the same objective: to move cargo safely, securely, efficiently and in compliance with applicable requirements.

Standardised training helps create this common understanding across the cargo chain and supports competent teams wherever they operate.
